Upgrading to InRoads V8i Training Course

Overview: This course focuses on the new highway and road design functions contained in the Version 8.11 (V8i) software. The format is lecture and example design problems. Students will learn tools and concepts that have been added to the software for improving productivity when applying InRoads to design projects. See the table of contents below for details on specific topics covered.
Length: 2 Days
Prerequisites: This course is intended for civil engineers and designers with previous InRoads 8.7 or later experience. The course does not cover the basics of using InRoads, nor the basics of the Template Editor and Roadway Designer added to the software in 8.7. If the student does not have a working knowledge of InRoads 8.7 or later and is upgrading to V8i, please call for suggestions.
Details:

This course focuses on the new features and tools available in the V8i version of InRoads (for those coming from 8.7, 8.8 or 8.9 XM). You’ll learn to use new tools and concepts that have been added to the software that will teach you how to:

  • Easily maneuver the new task-based interface.
  • Automatically place curves on your alignments using design criteria.
  • Automatically update alignment annotation and stationing.
  • Utilize new template and Roadway Designer enhancements to labeling, parametric constraints and value equations.
  • Automatically update Roadway Designer changes to design graphics.
  • Use Civil AccuDraw for placing graphics in lieu of standard AccuDraw.
  • Use MicroStation tools to create InRoads geometry.
  • Use Bentley Map (delivered free with InRoads) to:
  • Work with GIS features, feature attribute data and shapefiles.
  • Create shapefiles from MicroStation graphics.
  • Create buffers from proposed centerlines and construct spatial intersects on features like parcels, wetlands and existing utilities.
  • Calculate ROW takes or quantity impacts on existing features.
  • Use the new Site Modeler to create and size ponds, building pads, etc.

All students receive the Upgrading to InRoads V8i manual and dataset that is used to work through the topics with a knowledgeable instructor available to explain key concepts and assist with questions.
